The Two Words You Need to Look for When Searching for a Men’s Health Provider

When seeking a men’s health provider in Australia—particularly for issues like erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, penile implants, or male infertility—it’s crucial to ensure your specialist is properly trained and accredited.

The Two Words: FRACS (Urology)

The most important qualification to look for is Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons—or FRACS—in Urology. This credential signifies that the doctor is a fully qualified specialist urologist in Australia or New Zealand. It’s not a weekend course, or a marketing title—this is years of rigorous training, peer assessment, and surgical expertise.

To obtain FRACS (Urology), doctors must complete a competitive and intensive training program through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), followed by further specialty training through the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ). This ensures deep knowledge and safe surgical practice across the full range of urological conditions.

Why It Matters

Sadly, in today’s landscape, many clinics use vague terms like “men’s health expert” or “sexual health doctor” without formal urological training. These terms aren’t regulated, and many of the practitioners behind them may not be trained in surgery—or even in urology at all.

Only FRACS-certified urologists are recognised by the Medical Board of Australia as specialist surgeons in urology. If someone is offering you injections, implants, or surgery without this title, it’s worth asking more questions.

What About Andrology or Sexual Health?

Some FRACS urologists go on to complete additional fellowship training in andrology, microsurgery, or sexual medicine—gaining even deeper expertise in male reproductive and sexual health. But without the FRACS foundation, “fellowship” or “men’s health training” means very little.

How to Check Credentials
1. Search the doctor’s name on AHPRA to confirm their registered specialty.
2. Look for “FRACS (Urology)” under their qualifications.
3. Check for membership in USANZ (Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand).

Why This Matters for You

Whether you’re considering penile injections, implant surgery, or treatment for Peyronie’s disease, your provider’s qualifications directly impact your safety, results, and long-term health. Don’t settle for less than a fully trained specialist.

Use it or Lose It

You may have heard it said, “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.”

That really does apply to the penis in relation to penis length and girth.

Men normally have a number of erections each night, whilst they sleep. These were always scoffed about as being related to “dirty dreams” etc., but urologists have understood in recent years that these night-time erections are a part of the normal body function, to keep the penis healthy.
